Transcript for EA Update #33
Hi all, welcome to the AFPA latest EA update. As most of you, if not all of you are aware or have seen the latest release by Deputy Commissioner Krissy Barrett relating to the second offer for the new EA.
At the moment, the AFPA has been and will continue to collect as much data and information as we can regarding the facts of the latest offer and the ramifications of a YES or a NO vote.
We hope to have these on our website as soon as possible. I would encourage you all to look at that website, look at that information to inform yourselves of what the ongoing process is and what the ramifications may be.
So far what we can say though is the second offer has seen an increase in funding from the government of more than $40 million, and this is in very large part due to the additional lobbying by the AFPA, and in particular the terrific work you have undertaken in performing protected industrial action which undoubtedly has had an impact. I encourage you all to keep up the protected industrial action as the fight is not over yet.
Prior to the second offer going to vote which we anticipate will occur at the end of the month, we have prepared a one-minute survey to gauge how you feel about the offer and how you are likely to vote. This will assist us in our strategy and communications moving forward.
The offer as we've seen it has provided for an additional upfront percentage of 4.5% in the first year, as well as an increase to the use of force allowance, as well as a sick leave type of arrangement plus other improvements to the current EA.
I understand some of you will not be happy with the second offer and we of course were expecting and hoping for more, particularly as it relates to your salary. This being said, I encourage you all to look at the information from both the AFPA and the AFP, synthesize that and identify how this offer will affect you.
Some of the information we will provide will include what voting YES will mean or may mean to you and what voting NO may mean to you. I want to again thank each of you, and I want to encourage you to read as much information as you can on these offers so you are best informed on how to vote when this occurs.
Keep an eye out for further updates, an SMS or an EDM from the AFPA in the coming days, and please don't forget to fill out the small poll that we're running to get some information from you.
