A Grateful Thanks and Commitment for the Future

9 May 2025

I am grateful and genuinely humbled to have been re-elected President of the Australian Federal Police Association (AFPA).

I want to extend my deepest thanks to each of you for your trust, support, and continued faith in our continued faith in our common vision of the AFPA. It is an honour to speak for you, and I am more committed than ever to advocating for you and our members’ best interests, growing a stronger Association, and keeping your voices at the forefront of all we do.

We have taken monumental strides in the past term together. We have solidified the AFPA’s role as a necessary voice for our members, strengthened our operations internally, and delivered concrete outcomes on issues that matter to you. However, there is much more left to be achieved.

As I look to this next term, I am determined to bring some key initiatives that are central to the future of the AFPA and the welfare of our members:

  • The implementation of the AFP Blue Card, which will allow more protections, recognitions, and support measures for past, current and future AFP appointees;
  • Seek the removal of the AFP from the Government enterprise agreement negotiation framework and pursue an improved negotiation process that delivers fairer agreements, leading to better wages, conditions, and career opportunities for you;
  • Strengthening and expanding our connections with our most valued internal and external stakeholders with an aim to advance our advocacy and influence at every level;
  • Developing new and innovative methods for more actively engaging with our most valuable asset — our membership, so that members’ experiences, opinions, and concerns inform our decision-making and advocacy activities directly.

A new term also brings new leadership opportunities. I am genuinely excited to continue working with National Executive, and congratulate the new members. I believe this group of people will bring energy, diverse views, and a strong commitment to the AFPA goals. I have no doubt that, as a team, we will continue to advance the interests of all members and build on the solid foundations that have been laid previously. Parallel with this, I would also like to formally acknowledge and express thanks to the non-returning members of the last Board. Their effort, time, and commitment to the AFPA have helped make the Association stronger. Their input has left an indelible mark, and we thank them for their service and contributions.

Looking to the future, I pledge again to represent you truthfully, ethically, and with intention. Our actions will always be guided by a strong direction: protecting our members’ welfare and interests, advancing our Association’s professionalism, and creating the AFPA a confident and credible advocate of those we serve.

Thank you again for the opportunity to continue with such valuable work. I am privileged to be re-elected as the AFPA President, and I do not doubt that we can continue doing great things together.

In unity
