Message to AFPA membership – Formal petition to House of Representatives

16 May 2024

I’m writing to you today to inform you of a formal petition to bring your pay and conditions to the direct atention of the House of Representatives (HoR) in the Australian Parliament.
I’m pleased to say that the AFPA’s petition request was considered by the Standing Commitee on Petitions at a recent meeting and was found to meet the requirements of a formal petition.
The official title of the petition is Petition EN6189 – Australian Federal Police appointees deserve better
workplace conditions (https://www.aph.gov.au/e-petitions/petition/EN6189/sign)
The petition opened on 15 May 2024 and will close on 12 June 2024.
As part of our campaign to inform parliamentarians of your pay fight, this petition will help bring attention to the issue and put Members of Parliament (MP) on notice. The benefit of this formal HoR petition is if it receives more than 50 signatures, it may be referred to the Atorney-General for his response. The response would then be reviewed by the Commitee and presented to the House of Representatives for official tabling and recorded in Hansard. A good test of the Atorney-General’s commitment to you as an AFP appointee will be if he does offer a response.
I strongly encourage you to sign the petition. Please consider asking all your family and friends to show their support by signing too.
If you have any questions regarding the petition, please contact the AFPA via eaafpa@afpa.org.au.
We strongly encourage you to forward this email to anyone interested in signing the petition.
Please consider signing the petition. The more people that sign, the stronger our voice will be.
In solidarity,
Alex Caruana
